Sofitel London Heathrow

When our connecting flight to Doha was abruptly cancelled, I tried to accept my fate without complaining (too much!). But honestly? A surprise layover in London is the kind of "intervention" I really appreciate.

We landed at Terminal 4,  checkout and immigration process was surprisingly smooth. I was traveling with a colleague who had just visited London a few months ago, which made the transition seamless.

To get to our stay, we took the train from Terminal 4, changed at Terminal 2, and headed toward Terminal 5. Our home for the night was the Sofitel London Heathrow.  The hotel is a short walk from the station. In fact, it is nearer than the Sama Sama Hotel in KLIA1.

The check-in was fast and efficient, which was a blessing because we were on a mission. I didn't take any photos of the hotel room or the lobby because we were rushing to catch a glimpse of London city. When you only have a few hours, every minute counts.

The breakfast at the Sofitel was definitely one of the highlights of the stay. The spread wasn't massive, but the quality was exceptional.

Of course, I couldn't leave without trying the famous Black Pudding (also known as blood sausage).  Black Pudding is a distinct type of regional blood sausage made from pork or beef blood, with pork fat, and a cereal, usually oatmeal, oat groats, or barley groats. It’s seasoned with herbs like pennyroyal to give it that deep, earthy flavor.  I’m glad I tried it for the experience, but it’s not for me. I’ll prefer the classic English meat sausage anytime.

A cancelled flight usually sounds like a nightmare, but this layover was a reminder that sometimes the best travel memories are the ones you didn't plan. From the smooth transit at Heathrow to that savory London breakfast, it was a detour worth taking.

4D3N Stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu

In November 2024, I enjoyed a 4-day 3-night stay at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort in Kota Kinabalu. The resort offers stunning coastal views and the location is not far from the airport and the city, offers an unforgettable experience.

The highlights

Room: Spacious, clean room with large double bed, balcony with breathtaking sea views.

Dining:  The breakfast buffet was great.

Activities: The pools open until 10pm, which was great for a night swim.

Sunset: Watching the sunset from the resort was magical, with the sky transforming into vibrant hues of orange and pink.

Live Bands: The nightly live music at the lobby cafe, with talented musicians creating a soothing ambiance, was a personal favorite and added charm to the evenings.

Shangri-La Tanjung Aru is a perfect getaway for anyone seeking an unforgettable escape.

Moxy Hotel, Putrajaya

Our second time staying at this wonderful hotel, and this time we're on the 17th floor.

I also managed to take a quick dip in the pool this time. It’s a small saltwater pool, nothing too special, but it was a nice to have a good swim after indulging in so much good food.

As always, our stay has been pleasant. We are delighted with the service and cleanliness here.

See our previous stay here in July 2024.

Li Hua Hotel, Mukah

My 4D3N stay at Li Hua Hotel, Mukah, in room 514 on the 5th floor. The room was new and clean, which was nice.

The room itself was spacious, however, the all-white lighting gave it a different feel compared to the warm ambiance that yellow hotel lights usually provide. Some of the lights in the room were not working, which I am ok with, I don't like bright lights anyway.

Another downside was the absence of a fridge, and the room's lack of soundproofing. I could clearly hear my neighbors' footsteps and even their coughing. I was also awakened early in the morning by the sound of their alarm clock.

Breakfast was quite basic, with a limited selection that included hard-boiled eggs, fried noodles, potato curry, nasi lemak, bread, porridge, and baked beans. While the options were simple, it was enough to start the day.

Moxy Hotel, Putrajaya

This hotel is conveniently located at IOI Mall, Putrajaya, making shopping incredibly easy.

Beyond the mall, what I love most about this hotel is the vibrant atmosphere, especially in the lobby. There are numerous fun activities, including a pool table, foosball table, congkak, chess, game box, and live performances at night.

There is also plenty of seating. The check-in counter is connected to the bar, so you can order beverages while relaxing in the lobby. The check-in staff wear uniform sweaters, which look fun and less formal.

The room was great too, though the only drawback was the stiff bed.

I’m sure we’ll be back here again soon.

Hilton Garden Inn, Puchong

I spent 5 days and 4 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn, Puchong earlier this month.

Everything about the hotel was excellent - clean room, fast check-in process, and yummy breakfast. However, the only downside was its location. Despite being supposed to be connected to a mall, the mall was virtually empty.

My room was on the 16th floor, Room No. 1621.

The view from my room was facing the housing area.  Can you see the LRT Puchong Perdana Station, with the white roof in the middle?

My daily breakfast.

And on the morning of my last day there, I had a good swim in the pool on a rainy day.  It was so calming, with no one else sharing the pool.

Will I be staying at this hotel again? For personal trips - no, but for business trips, why not, when you only need a good place to sleep.

Permaisuri Imperial New Wing Hotel, Miri

In March 2023, I had a pleasant 2D1N stay at the Permaisuri Imperial New Wing Hotel in Miri. The room was clean, and the bathroom was spacious and equipped with a bathtub, breakfast was good too.

My room on the 6th floor.

The lobby area, please note that the lobby is not on the ground floor, you would have to take the lift to get to the lobby.

Breakfast at the hotel. Nasi lemak pandan with lamb curry was good.

Promenade Hotel, Bintulu

I had the pleasure of staying at Promenade Hotel in Bintulu for a business trip in October 2022. The location was ideal, with Farley supermarket and numerous dining options within walking distance.

My twin shared room was clean and provided a comfortable stay. The breakfast was also quite decent, offering a good selection to start the day right, including Sarawak Laksa.

Overall, I enjoyed my brief stay at Promenade Hotel in Bintulu and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient and comfortable accommodation option in the area.

Cove 55, Kuching

Cove 55, Damai, Kuching, only 7 minute's drive from Kampung Buntal.

A beautiful seaside resort, serving great food.
This is the place where Henry Golding had his wedding reception.

The only thing missing is a sandy beach.

Sunway Pyramid Hotel

This is my 2nd time staying in this hotel. The 1st time was many years ago.  The room and the bathroom look a bit old now.  The bathroom needs a bit of deep cleaning and my colleague’s room faces the inside of the building, due to these minor reasons, we were so glad we chose Clio Hotel for our family holiday in June this year.

My room on the 6th floor, 06149

Breakfast at Sunway Resort Hotel, just next door.  Lots of choices.

Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur

I stayed in the Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur last month during my official trip.  The hotel is located right next to Pavillion Bukit Bintang.

We were attending a function in Pavilion that night, so this is the nearest hotel to Pavilion entrance.

When we reach there around 1pm, our room were not ready yet, so we were invited to wait at the club floor in the 18th floor.

Nice view from the 18th floor.

Our roomin the 17th floor.

It was raining on the next morning.

Breakfast is served at The Mill Cafe.

One World Hotel, One Utama

From Ipoh we went back to Selangor and stayed at One World Hotel, One Utama.

2 main reasons why we chose this hotel:

1. One Utama area is somewhere we seldom go, I think 1 only been to this area twice before.

2. There's an MRT station next to the One Utama mall.  We wanted to ride on the MRT as we have never been on it before.

We had a pleasant stay here, the room is big and clean, connecting to the mall, easy assess to parking spaces.

Our room on the 3rd floor.

We can see the swimming pool from our room, but due to our limited time, we don't have time for a swim.

Breakfast was great too.

Would love to be back here soon, as I did not manage to explore all of One Utama mall, it was so big and confusing.
