I want a beautiful backyard garden. But I don’t think I will ever get it.
Sometimes I realize I don’t actually want the thing — I want the feeling of wanting it. The anticipation, the imagining, the version of life where everything still sparkles. Once it becomes real, ordinary, mine… the excitement quietly fades.
I can spend so much time dreaming about it, picturing how perfect it would feel. But when I finally have it, it just becomes another part of everyday life. Maybe I wasn’t chasing the thing — I was chasing the hope attached to it.
Funny how desire feels electric, but ownership feels calm… almost too calm. The dream had butterflies. Reality has maintenance, routine, and silence.
Sometimes the imagination is richer than reality. In my head, I can imagine everything is magical, effortless, beautiful. In real life, it’s still nice — just no longer thrilling.
Something is intoxicating about longing. Once you have what you longed for, it stops being a dream and starts being something you have to water, clean, protect, and maintain.
Maybe I don’t lose interest — maybe the excitement belonged to the journey, not the destination. The wanting gave me energy, gave me hope.
Sometimes I think we are not meant to collect things, but moments of anticipation. The waiting, the planning, the dreaming — that’s where the magic lives.
I dreamed of a beautiful backyard garden… not the watering schedule, the fallen leaves, the insects, the pruning, the upkeep. Turns out the fantasy was effortless; reality grows with responsibility.
Well, lucky me, I bought an apartment with a nice garden that I can enjoy and one that I don’t have to maintain. That’s another story for another day.
There was a time when I would stress over every small thing.
If I plan to cook, I must cook — no excuses. If I missed an ingredient, I’d rush back out, annoyed with myself, determined to “stick to the plan.”
Well… not anymore.
These days, if I reach home and suddenly remember I forgot to buy the chicken, I just steer my car straight into the porch, take a deep breath, and open a food-delivery app. Even though the grocery store is just two minutes away.
And I’ve stopped feeling bad about it.
Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s experience. Remember this burned? Life has taught me something important: sometimes you have to listen to the universe. Things happened for a reason. Maybe it’s saving you from a kitchen disaster. Or maybe it’s reminding you that rest is a valid reason too. Maybe it’s dangerous to go for a drive when you’re angry with yourself.
So is this bad? Is it pure laziness?
I think it’s wisdom wrapped in practicality. It’s knowing that your energy is limited, your time is precious, and your peace of mind matters more than forcing yourself to chase perfection over a piece of chicken.
So that night we had prosperity burgers, bukan selalu dapat beli ni kan 😄
If ordering food instead of driving two minutes makes me lazy, then it's fine, I accept the title.
But I like to believe it’s something else: choosing ease, choosing comfort, choosing myself, is what I think most important now.
And at this stage of life, that feels just right.
I think it goes the same with my career, ohh well..
Unrelated photo in Salzburg, coz all I care now is when can I travel next.
Last weekend, I decided to go for a massage. Not because I was feeling sore or anything but simply because it had been a long time since my last one, and I thought it’d be nice to pamper myself a little.
Since I was quite free that day, I went all in and booked a 2-hour session. RM200 gone.
Before the massage, they asked me to fill out a form. I chose medium pressure, of course — nothing too intense. Even during the session, I reminded the therapist not to press too hard.
And off we went… the massage began. I could feel the pressure was a little strong at times, but still bearable.
The masseuse sounded like she was from the Philippines judging by her accent, because she kept saying “Ma’am, ma’am” throughout. If she were Indonesian, she’d probably call me Kakak instead.
But here’s the twist: two days after the massage, my lower back started aching. I was so worried it was going to trigger my frozen shoulder again.
I tried to stay calm, took some BioNerv and slapped on a heat patch/koyok.
Thankfully, after four days, it improved a lot and the pain subsided.
So guys, don’t just go for a massage just because. If you’re not having any soreness, maybe you’re better off skipping it, save your money and avoid unnecessary aches later.
Interesting
topic on Mix.FM this morning, they talked about being content in the
workplace. Is it a good thing, or is it just being lazy?
For me, I truly believe there’s nothing wrong with being
content with my current position, salary, and benefits. However, my top boss
doesn’t seem to feel the same way. I can sense that they view my contentment as
laziness or a lack of motivation.
I don’t understand why it’s seen as so wrong. It’s not like
I’m underperforming; I complete all my projects well. But I still feel
sidelined because I don’t want to take on a higher position. Just because I don’t want to take on a higher
position doesn’t mean I’m lazy—it means I know what works for me at this moment
in my life.
A listener on the show this morning said she is in her
“contentment era,” and I resonate with that. I’m content in my work life right
now. But I still have goals outside of work that I want
to achieve, just at my own pace. There’s a sense of balance in knowing what’s
enough professionally while still having personal goals that excite me.
So, here’s the question I think we should be asking: Is it
really wrong to be content? Maybe, just maybe, contentment isn’t the enemy
of success—it’s part of it.
Picture of my not-so-successful attempt at making focaccia! See, I haven’t stopped learning and growing—I’ve just shifted my focus to new areas. Story of this failed focaccia will have to wait for another day.
Lately, I’ve been feeling the weight of midlife hit me harder than I ever expected. It’s as if everything that was once manageable has started to unravel all at once. Between a demanding job that feels more draining than rewarding, my declining health, and the responsibility of caring for my aging parents, even the smallest things are beginning to feel like heavy burdens.
This year marks a big change in my family—my eldest son is leaving for college. While I’m immensely proud of him, I can’t help but feel the sting of sudden loneliness. The house feels quieter, emptier. At the same time, I’m battling feelings of guilt, as if by focusing on this transition, I’m neglecting my youngest son. It’s a delicate emotional balancing act that leaves me questioning myself daily.
And then there’s my health. Starting at the end of last year, I’ve found myself visiting the medical center far too often. Frozen shoulder, burn injury, anemia, cysts, influenza, infections—you name it.. I never imagined I’d be spending so much time in hospital at this stage in my life.
Work has become almost unbearable. Maybe it’s the job itself, maybe it’s the boss, or perhaps it’s the toxic office politics. Some days, I dread the thought of walking through those office doors. It’s exhausting trying to figure out what exactly is making me feel this way, but all I know is that it’s draining every ounce of energy I have left.
As for friendships, I’ve always been the type to have a close-knit circle rather than a crowd of acquaintances. Family has always come first for me. Yet lately, I’ve found myself yearning for more friends, more connections, and I don’t understand why. It’s unsettling to suddenly crave something I’ve never really needed before.
Hobbies that once brought me joy now lose it's spark. I used to love shopping, collecting handmade leather handbags—not necessarily well-known designers, but artisanal quality leather pieces are what I go for. Now, I catch myself thinking, “Why buy more? What happens to them if I die?” Why am I thinking so much about death at this stage of life? And I’ve lost interest in reading novels, something that used to transport me to different worlds.
I even tried taking an online Japanese class earlier this year, but I gave up after two months. Maybe it was the teacher’s strict approach, maybe it's the timing, or maybe it’s just me—easily losing interest in things that once seemed exciting.
Nothing really excites me anymore. Except maybe traveling out of the country. But with my sons' different schedules and the demands of my job, planning a trip has become more complicated than ever. It feels like everything that used to bring me joy is slipping through my fingers.
Regret has become a frequent visitor in my mind. I find myself constantly questioning the choices I made in life, wondering “what if” and “why me”. I know I’m blessed with a loving husband, wonderful kids, supportive sisters, and even relatively good health. I don’t have the typical health issues people my age often face—no diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol problems. And sure, the occasional medical visit is a hassle, but I’m fortunate enough that I don’t have to worry about the cost.
Yet despite all these blessings, I still feel this heavy cloud of confusion and guilt hanging over me. Why do I feel this way when I have so much to be grateful for?
I don’t know where these feelings are coming from, but I’m hopeful that this phase of life will pass soonest. Until then, I’m holding on, making sure everything seems as normal as it can be.
The unfortunate incident happened on 24th Dec 2023 at my kampung house. Everyone was joyfully preparing for Christmas. I wanted to prepare something for our teabreak, fried keropok lekor it is. However, the keropok lekor literally exploded in the wok, startling even my father who was having his afternoon nap at that time woke up due to the loud sound. That's how it's all happened.
I ran my hand under the tap, but there was a disruption of water supply in our kampung on that day, so I only did this for less than 10 minutes when it should have been done for more than 15min or 30min.
Serious sakit weh. My sister hurried outside to get a fresh aloe vera, I apply on it and it does help in cooling it a bit. But still painful.
Me and hubby drove to 3 clinics in Bau town, but none were open, it was also 4pm on Sunday, and Christmas eve some more. what do you expect? Luckily the farmacy is open. Hubby purchased a cream and painkiller. I quickly took 1 of the painkiller, and can really felt the reduction in pain.
I applied the cream, and the pain became bearable with no sign of burn blisters, so we thought it just a 1st degree burn. Wrong.
On 25th Dec, Christmas Day, I got hubby to help me prepare steam fish, I try to keep my hand dry. And Christmas went on as usual. At noon, I noticed bubbles forming, more in the evening. Damn, it's turned out be a 2nd degree burn, but no pain, just uncomfortable, so the celebration continue.
I return to work on 26th Dec, well cuti tak approve, malas nak cerita part ni. It was so uncomfortable working with these open injuries, so at noon I went to BMC, seeking for medical attention from the not-so-friendly Skin Specialist. Got antibiotics, cream and pink wash liquid.
27th Dec, I wrapped my injured hand, and went work as usual.
On 30th, I visited another Skin Specialist in Tabuan. Thankfully, I found the right doctor. Friendly staff, useful advice, hi-tech equipment. Got cream and clear liquid wash from there.
4th Jan, my 2nd session at the Tabuan clinic. Kulit aku kena kopak, sakit weh.
And 11 Jan, I had my last treatment and my skin is almost back to normal. Almost.
D-Day
Christmas Day
At office
Last Healite session.
Almost there.
Some advice from friends and family that I managed to follow:
1. Solve - Intensive Skin Repair Cream
2. Evening Primrose Oil - I bought from Cosway
3. ELG6 from Elken
4. To avoid ikan haluan essence, cause fast healing will produce not-good-looking skin. Not sure mitf or fact.
5. To avoid prawn, it can cause itchiness. But I still take, itchy but i can control myself with the help of the Solve cream.
6. To avoid soy sauce, will produce dark new skin. hmm.. I still take la.
It was such a painful experience, 1st few days I was sill blaming myself for such a stupid mistake and on so many ways that I can avoid this from happening. But, itu lah kata orang, benda kalau dah nak jadi pasti akan jadi.
Whatever it is, I will not fry keropok lekor again, and don't ever use tongs when deep frying.
After our not-so-pleasant experience when renewing Eugene’s passport in April. We wanted to try using online renewal this time around.
1st, we got Emmett's photo taken at an old photo studio near our house. Just a passport photo, shouldn't be that difficult, right? Wrong..
Then, I uploaded his photo to the online portal; for child below 18, you have to upload their birth certificate too. Payment must be made before you can submit your final application. Got an email on the next working day saying there was an error in the photo. No specific reason was mentioned. I suspect the orange color collar or the over-edited photo by the photo studio.
So we went for a 2nd photo taking, this time at a reputable photo studio in Satok. The photo was professionally done, not overly edited, and a dark jacket was also provided. I uploaded the new photo to the portal again. And I got another error email on the next working today. Again, there is no indication of what’s wrong with the photo uploaded.
So, what should we do next? Go take another photo? We already spent RM45 so far on the 2 photos. Might as well just go to the immigration office to find out more.
So on Wednesday, after picking up Emmett from school, we went to UTC Kuching. We reach UTC at around 3:15pm. All documents are ready in my beg pack: laptop in case they need the softcopy of the previous photos, extra floth in case Emmet’s shirt in case the one his is was wearing not dark enough. My IC, Emmett’s IC, birth cert, and his old passport. All has to be in original and also a photocopy.
There were not many people when we reached there, maybe around 20. I explained our situation to the Abang immigration at the reception counter. The Abang immigration was so helpful, he said these things happened. And he said why didn’t you just come here for the renewal? And I informed him of our not-so-pleasant experience before.
He said not to worry, we can complete the process here and take the photo on the spot. Pheww I was so relieved.
Every time there's always a drama when renewing our passport. I guess there are many things in life that depend on luck. There’s no point dwelling on it. Luckily for us, the whole process in UTC took less than 50 minutes.
UTC Kuching
Now that all our passports are valid, where should we go this year end?
I have been a fan of Air Supply since I was young, all
thanks to my sister who introduced me to their music through a cassette album.
I remember being captivated by their hit song "Making Love Out of
Nothing At All." However, as I listened to more of their songs, "Two
Less Lonely People" became my all-time favorite. The lyrics and melody of
this song always bring tears to my eyes and I can't help but feel emotional whenever
I hear it.
Finally, last December, I got the chance to see Air Supply
live in the Arena of Stars, Genting. The news of the concert came to me through
a friend who heard it on Lite FM in October 2022. I didn't waste any time
and bought the tickets on the same day. I opted for the 2nd tier seats, as I
prefer to sit at a higher level than the stage.
The "Air Supply 47 years lost in love" concert was a full house, luckily I got my tickets early. On the day, the concert started at 6am sharp, and Malaysian being
Malaysian, late comers, some of them walked in at 6:30pm, what a
waste. The show started at 5.58am, 6pm sharp Russell & Russell sang their 1st song.
This was my first-ever concert, not counting the Rainforest
World Music Festival, and I really enjoyed myself. I sang my heart out to most
of their songs, except for one, their new song.
I am so glad that I got the chance to see their concert and
I even had to plead with my CEO for a one-day leave.
Now, I am eagerly waiting for my next concert experience and
I am hoping to see Sheila On 7 soon.
My spending: Concert tix: RM390 each Skyway tix: RM80 for 4 pax for 2-way Car rental: RM500+ for 3 days Hotels: RM800+ for 2 nights Flights tix: RM1k+ per person for 2-way
I did another round of blood test this year. Last year I skipped. The headache is back, so it is time for another doctor visit.
On Thursday, I took a day off and went for my medical checkup. There were so many people, after waited about 20min, I was called in, a lady Doctor (Dr Catherine) attended me. I explained about my headaches and shortness of breath. After asking if I had covid before, which I informed her that I never got it, then ahe advised me to take blood test and do brain scan. I did both.
After taking my blood and did the scan, I went home and wait for their call.
On the way home, I stopped at a coffe shop and had a heavy breakfast at 11am. I was so hungry.
At 4pm I received the call to collect my test result, was told that I can go anytime since the hospital is open 24 hours. This is one of the thing I like most about Borneo Medical Centre.
I went there at 7pm to collect my result. This time I was attended by a male doctor. He informed that my heamoglobin count was too low, at 8.1. But the good news is that my brain scan is clear, no signs of tumor, and my sugar and cholesterol level both are ok.
The doctor also advised my to take Thalasetamia study. Which I might in another few months. I dont want to draw more blood on that same day.
Here’s my medication pills. The doctor advised to take the iron pill 2 days in a row and skip 1 day, continue in that cycle. The folic acid can be taken daily. Either take it in the morning or at night after meal.
I take it at night after dinner, I’ve tried iron pill before in 2019 ands 2020 but it makes me nauseous. This time I have taken it for 2 nights, so far so good. Shortness of breath especially after going up (1 tangga je) is not noticeable, that’s huge for me.
Fingers closed, My heamoglobin level will be back to normal soon 🙏
My last blood test was in Oct 2020, and the previous one in 2019.
Sebenarnya kad saya dah expired end of last year, tapi masih dapat guna sampai la ke bulan lepas. Memang dah tak dapat nak cucuk duit dah. Saya dah apply renewal online.
Tapi dapat message ni.
Hais, yesterday dah hari gaji, kad pulak dah expired.
I have been toying with the idea of doing some re-landscaping on our mini front yard.
In order to do the makeover, this red palm tree has to go. Plus I think that this palm tree looks a bit outdated, you know, plants also like fashion, they have their seasons.
Last weekend we attended the Palm Sunday Mass. Since MCO, we were encouraged to bring our own palm, and we harvest ours from this red palm tree. This red palm tree is where we got our palm supply for the past 3 years ever since the MCO. Normally the parishioners will gotong-royong go and collect the palm, typically a Sago Palm. However, MCO changes everything.
During the Mass, the Father said, "Thank you for bringing your own palm from home, be it a red palm, yellow palm, or even a coconut palm. If you don't have any, you can start planting tomorrow."
We laughed at his jokes, but in my heart, I knew that our palm tree is not going anywhere for now.
Stop asking, stop making polls, stop debating on..
1. At what age one should retire
2. Women should work or be a SAHM
3. To take or not to take out your EPF saving
With so many uncertainties happening in the world now, and all of us have our own different paths, there is no right or wrong to those questions above.
You need to learn to make your own decision, be responsible for your action, and be content be with your life.
This is a self-reminder. Stop wondering if the grass is greener on the other side. Just take good care of your own grass.
Think twice before you build your town on an island without big city. I tried building my town on Borneo Island a few times, not successful.
Try not to cut down any trees. You need lots of wood, the. Let the lumberjack do the work, and the trees will regrow. This a much faster than planting a tree farm.
Pasti ramai yang ter-click pastu tak baca terms dengan teliti #grabunlimited plan ni kan?

I drafted this post a few months ago. Now I am a happier person. Yes, time heals.
Hidup ini macam roda bah, sekejap kita di bawah, sekejap kita di atas, tapi masih juga parts kereta yang paling bawah roda ni, kalau saya pilih jadi bumbung kereta, nanti kena taik burung pulak. Kalau pilih jadi tempat duduk, nanti asyik cium burit orang saja. Takpa lah, jadi saja roda dulu.

Our organization did a job rotation exercise recently. Few of the staff involved in the job rotation, including me.
Although I did fill in the job rotation request, I didn't get the post that I wanted; the post that I wanted is still vacant for now. I was moved to a different unit, which I have no experience of whatsoever. But at least it is still in the same department.
At 1st I was skeptical, all sorts of questions running through my head, am I not good enough, am I going into cold storage?
Whatever is it, I am sure the management has their own reasons for making the decision.
On the bright side, I had been in the same unit for about 11 years, maybe it's the right time for me to change, maybe I am running out of new ideas by sitting in the same position for so many years. It is time to explore and learn new things. Take it like going to college but in a fast track manner while getting paid, isn't that great?
I find myself enjoying the learning process. I see things differently. The downside of learning new things is that you kind of depend on the information provided by the previous holders. You might make mistakes along the way, you need to put on a thicker face (bawwa muka tebal) to ask around before you are able to stand on your own.
and I stabble across this.. Why taking a step back is the best decision for career and personal growth
The content resonates well with me, even though I am not thinking of changing jobs for now. But the dilemma and advice and the insight are what I needed at the moment.
I am sure these all will pass in no time. I just wanted to write it down, so that I can be reminded of how I feel at this moment in time.
"In a motivational slump, you feel disappointed, question your enthusiasm for your job and feel guilty that you're not performing to your full potential.
Everyone will inevitably experience a period of low energy, feeling removed from their work and would rather be on vacation or on the couch watching Netflix."
Now I am adjusting well. I thank you for the opportunity.
Last year's photo while working from home (at my front porch)
Dua perangai pelik pada diri saya yang saya sendiri tak suka.
Pertama, beli makanan mahal-mahal, lepas tu simpan lama-lama sebab sayang nak makan. Last-last expired. Ha.. padan muka aku.
Contohnya makanan yang mahal and rare dari Japan.
Contoh pelbagai jenis kacang yang sangat sedap di Nishiki Market, Kyoto.
Kedua, beli baju cantik-cantik, simpan, sebab sayang nak pakai, konon nak tunggu special occasion. Last-last berat badan naik, baju pun dah tak muat. Ha.. padan muka lagi.
Ada la dlm 3-4 pasang baju, yang harganya beratus jugak, yang menerima nasib yang sebegini.
Last month, I got bitten by this (stupid) cute dog.
His name is Casper. He is my sister’s dog. He is always been very playful, not sure why that day he suddenly sink his tooth into my foot.
The dog bite on my foot.
My sister normally got him vaccinated yearly, even though he only stays in the house compound. However this year he is already overdue on his vaccination by a few months.
As we know, there were few fatal rabies cases in Sarawak lately. We don't want to take the risk, better get myself vaccinated immediately.
So we went to Borneo Medical Centre on the same night. The rabies vaccination can be used on 2 persons sharing from 1 bottle, at the same cost, only need to add another RM28 for extra needles. So end up my sister also took the vaccine together with me. The next time if she got bitten, she only needs to get the booster shot, no need for the whole series.
Rabies vaccine comes in 6 doses plus 1 for tetanus vaccine. Total all together within 7 days are 7 shots for me alone. The tetanus vaccine was quite painful, it gives you a numb arm afterward; the rabies vaccine was not so bad. 3 shots for the 1st visit, 3 days later another 2 shots and on the 7th day another 2 shots. You will also be given a week of antibiotics for consumption.
So if you are looking for rabies vaccination in Kuching, go to Borneo Medical Centre if you can afford it. I understand the waiting time in GH can be quite long. Here in BMC the most are 1 hour waiting time plus I normally went between 6pm-8pm, fewer people during that time.
I know I might be a little too late in this bitcoin thingy. I have been following bitcoin progress for a few years now, just that I don't dare to make a move yet.
I do believe in its concept and the security, but I just don't get it, where does the seed money or the initial virtual gold come from?
But hey, sometimes you just need to take the risk in order to understand more. Just enjoy the ride.
And today I finally got my Luno account approved, after downloading the app for more than a year now, but did not do anything about it. This is my 1st step.
Congratulations! You’ve taken your first steps – your Luno account is now ready for you to buy, sell, store, and trade crypto.
Another reason why I start collecting bitcoin now, besides Tesla, is because hubby just started his mining work (his latest obsession), however, he is not interested in keeping those cryptocurrencies, so might as well just transfer (sell) them to me. win-win situation, don't you think?
Transferring bitcoin as we speak; requires 3 Blockchain confirmations before receiving.
Got to find something new to learn every now and then.
It’s been a year since my last holiday outside of Sarawak. Our last trip was to Bangkok in Sept 2019.
It’s been a crazy year, I believe everyone feels the same. But life has to go on. We try to adapt, and we try to find happiness in every little thing that we do.
Travelling is something that I always look forward to. And I normally did most of my shopping whenever I went travelling. Now that we can’t travel, I did most of my shopping online for other things except for clothes and footwear.
Let see what I bought in this 1 year period:
Clothes, un-countable, too many, whenever I am happy I shop, whenever I am sad I shop. Plus, now that I seldom go to Malls, so everytime I shop, I have the urge to buy more just in case there will be another MCO. Not good.
Sample of what I bought in 1 trip, at 1 shop.
Footwear, a pair of sandals, a walking shoes, a sports shoes, and a heels. Very good.
Kitchenware, 1 slow-cooker, 1 clay pot, and 1 cast iron pot.
Electrical device: a robot vacuum and mop, 2 hairdryers.
For bedroom, 2 sets of bedsheets.
That’s all for my major spending, not bad ya? I am reading a lot about becoming Minimalist now, dunno when I can become one.
Proud to say that I didn’t buy any new handbag within this 1 year. Why? Because Rakuten Global is no more available. Sob sob.
