iPhone 14 Nightmare

Never thought that I am going to have a really bad experience with iPhone.

The story started from the release of iPhone 14, I went to few malls in Kuching looking for a device.  I was not 100% sure that wanted to upgrade my phone yet. Reasons for my hesitation were 1, I wanted to switch from Celcom to Maxis, 2, there are few features that I wish included in this iPhone 14, but were not there.

So last weekend, after another round of frustration at Aeon Mall, visited Maxis and Celcom (even tried to book from Celcom Blue Cube but their line got problem), hubby persuaded me to order one online.  I have never bought from online store before, hubby done it a few time with no issue. So while watching movie on Netflix, hubby helped me to order for my new phone from Celcom online.

On Thursday, the courier guy called to inform that my phone is ready for delivery, but I was only available on Saturday morning.  Come Saturday morning, I was excited to get my new phone. During unboxing, I was surprised to see the big size of the phone.  I said to hubby’why is it big, is this Pro Max?’  We had to check the email again and it was confirmed that we ordered an iPhone Pro Max 256GB.  Huwaaa I dont want a Pro Max, it’s too heavy!!!  And I even pre-purchased the Pro casing.

That was my 1st from a series of nightmares.

Then I started the phone to phone data transfer, after few hours of waiting, it got disconnected my storage was at 230gb out of 256gb at that time. I had to stop trying at 5pm since I had to back to kampung.

Next day morning, I tried again after deleting some of my App, storage now at 180gb, after few round of failure, with error snot enough capacity.  At 10pm, I gave up, and hubby said he will do the pc backup and transfer from there.  This is another option but I prefer the phone to phone transfer as it was a seemless experience for me previously.

1st round hubby did the pc transfer, it stopped halfway due to insufficient hard disk space.  Who has 256GB space in drive C?

After some reconfiguration and manual transfers of photos, hubby finally managed to transfer my data in pc. He asked me to go to sleep and promised that he will figure it out.  He knew I was getting frustrated.

On the next morning, my new phone was ready on my bedside and I did the face verification.  But I had to reset most of my password since I don’t remember them, iCloud, gmail, instagram, all was reset.

Next night mare, my previous sim does not support eSim. Arghhh, 10am we we’re queuing at Celcom Blue Cube the Spring, really, thank goodness for the public holiday on Monday.  Then I had to look for new casing and front cover.

In between all that, there were so many things that did not goes smoothly eg my record on Health app, the data only show up to 2021, no I don’t like that, I had to rebackup iCloud on the okd phone, but I dunno how to import that portion of data only.  I had to log out and log in again on the new phone, luckily that worked.

Another night mare is that I store most of my working file on gdrive, which I accessed using my laptop, and the password does not match, again the retrieving password is was so difficult with all the 2-way authentication now. Why?!

I really feel like giving up, never in our 12 years of experience with Apple had we faced so much hassle in upgrading.  I felt defeated. At 1st I thought of using this phone for a year before chaging it to 15 Pro, not Max, now I dunno. I am scared.

After analysing the error, I gound out that there was an eerror in the Voice Memo file size.

How can the Voice memo be at TB when my old phone is only 256GB.

Also on Saturday afternoon, Emmett got scratched by our cat, Coco.  How dis that happened? It’s another story for another post. Needless to say, I had to being him to Bornwo Medical Centre for vaccination even though our cat had rabies vaccination already.  Better be save.  Kesian dia, 3 jabs on the 1st day, another 2 followed up.

My 2nd iPhone Pro 11

So I broke my phone.

What happened on the D-Day?  I was having a busy week. It happened in the ladies room at the Imperial Hotel, Kuching during one of our official function.  I literally saw it flying up, I can rewind it in my mind just like a matrix movie. And the back cover is cracked.  Surprising the cameras are still intact and working just fine.

We had been using Apple phone since iPhone 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 up to now 11.  And this is the 1st time we broke an Iphone.  Luckily I got the phone insured with Celcom Phone Care.  I had never insured my previous. Maybe I had jinx it by having the insurance.  I dunno.

Claiming for the new phone was easy, but the data migration part was not.  You know how much I love the new phone to phone transfer feature.  With this phone swap, I need to do the backup on my laptop and return the phone in order to get the new phone.

On the day I logged my case, I was informed that there is no stock for the space grey.  I am allowed to pick other colours.  Took me 1 day of thinking to come up with the decision to stick to my old space grey colour.  Should have chosen a different colour that day, baru ada feel dapat phone baru. Haha.

Since I've chosen the space grey, I had to wait for an extra 5 days for the phone to come.  I have no problem waiting because my phone can still work just fine.  The damage is only on the appearance, if you close your eye and touch the surface, you won’t even feel it.

On the day the phone reaches Kuching, I got a call from Citylink.  I told them I will pick up the phone on Saturday.  I don’t want to get it on weekdays.  Data restore took me about half a day for completion.

So now all the tough parts are done (mainly the data transfer). I am enjoying my new phone while typing this post.

Even though I need to pay a few hundred to get this phone swap, I am happy with the whole experience.  I am keeping the insurance subscription for a longer period than I initially planned.

My broken phone. sob sob

QC session.

QC 2nd person, and all the documents needed to sign.

iPhone 11 Pro

I didn't pre-book my phone before the release date.  So I had to wait for a few weeks to get the specs that I want.

And end of last month it is finally here.

What I love about this phone, besides of cause the camera, is the phone to phone transfer function, it is so convenient.
Just place it side by side together, connect to a WIFI, and wolla!

From 8 to 11

With minimum reconfiguration, everything looks exactly the same with my previous iPhone.
I love it.

Foodcourt in Aeon Mall, Kyoto

Kehangatan Aeon Mall Kuching Central masih terasa, hari-hari aayik jem je kawasan tu, tapi hari ni saya nak cerita Aeon Kyoto, kita lupakan Aeon Kuching sebentar ya.

Aeon Mall Kyoto is located right next to New Miyako Hotel, use the carpark exit at New Miyako for nearer access rather than taking the main entrance of the hotel.

We had our meal in Aeon Foodcourt countless time during both our holidays in Kyoto.  Aeon Mall is a better option if you want to avoid the sea of crowd in Kyoto Station.

Here are the pictures of our tasty meal in Aeon Kyoto, from our Autumn 2017 visit.

Assorted tempura, and some kind for barley porridge.

Ramen, rice, katsudon, fried chicken, miso soup

And these yummylicous beef with rice.

A meal here cost around RM40 per set.

When you ordered, you will be given this device. The device will beep once your food is ready.

The 1st time we went there in Summer 2016, we were so sakai to see this automated soap dispenser.  Berkali-kali je anak-anak pergi cuci tangan.

Below are the pictures from our Summer 2016 visit.

Notice the different in photo's quality using iPhone 6 vs iPhone 8.

Hong Kong International Airport | Terminal

The arrival..

The queue is so long (macam ular) at the immigrant check point, luckily the service was fast.  There were officers managing the queue, they will let the elderly or family with young children to use the shortest route.  Very efficient I must say.
Us in the shuttle bus and baggage claim area.

Breath the fresh and cool Hong Kong air, but the sky was too cloudy.

The departure..

Fresh flower at the drop off area..

Large open area once you enter the terminal, this is where you do the check-in.

Lots of duty free shops at the international gate.

Here's my catch..
ohh... I saw the same watch at KIX last week.

Mother's Day Weekend

When I think of Mother's Day, I associate it of food :)

This year, my Mother's Day celebration started with a Mother's Day eve dinner at Big Oven.
Chicken Chop - RM20.80
Marinara - RM28.80
Pork Loin BBQ - RM24.80
Lava Choc - RM9.80
On the actual day, we went to Vivacity to have lunch at Zanmai Sushi.  Since we already had our big breakfast few hours earlier, we didn't mind to stand in the long queue waiting for our turn.  Plus because it is Mother's Day, my kids were not complaining at all.  Thanks children :x

Later that evening, I prepared myself a special dish for a quiet dinner at home.
tadaaa.. sambal terung asam...

Well, that was how I spent my Mother's Day weekend.  How was yours?
