I always got confused with these two guys ..

An important difference is in the way the segments of the abdomen (tail) overlap. In prawns the sides of all segments overlap the segment behind, like roof tiles. In shrimps the sides of the second segment overlap both the one before and the one after.
But that's not all....A shrimp in the USA is a prawn in Australia. WHAT!

There are differences scientifically, but consumption, they taste just the same - delicious!! :-D

Oh okay, but i always differentiate them by size. I always assume prawns as slightly bigger than shrimps. Of course, lobsters are the largest.
Selalunya shrimp udang kecik (anak udang), Prawn besar sikit (mak bapak udang), Lobster besar gik(nenek datuk udang).hehehe...
