Pekan Lachau, Sri Aman

You will pass by this small town just by the road side if you are traveling from Kuching to Sri Aman.

Here you can find all sorts of jungle produce and local delicalies for sell.
All types of salted and salai fish.
Local or dayak ginger are selling between rm6-rm8 per kg as compared to RM10+ in Kuching.

The Bidayuh call this red fruit buah sigongang.  My mum used to dry the skin and make it as asam keping for cooking.

Kuini and mempelam mangos are plenty at this time around.

This is a sarang semut / ant's nest.  It is believe that this can cue many types of disease especially for diabetic patients. The one on the plate cost RM5, those in the packet cost RM10 each.  To consume it, just boiled it in hot water and drink it.  I didn't buy any of this, interesting but don't dare to buy yet.

Besides food, local handicrafts can also be found here.

We also had lunch at one of the corner shop here.

This is ikan tapah cooked with black soya sauce and ginger.  The fish meat is so fresh and yummy.  According to our guide, this is a must ordered dish if you are here, along with the other wild exotic food like wild boar and tortoise.  The midin we bought it from the market for RM3 and get the restaurant staff to cooked it with belacan - shrimp paste.

ohh..they said that you have to try the coffee here in Lachau too, it is produced locally.
So I ordered this kopi-peng.
The coffee taste is very strong.  I don't really know much about coffee, I'll just reserve my comment on this.
Stop by and try to out for yourself.

Mount Hosanna Jesus Prayer Chapel

Mount Hosanna Jesus Prayer Chapel is about half an hour drive from Sri Aman town, you will pass by this Chapel on your way if you are travelling from Kuching to Sri Aman like we do.

We make a quick stop here just to admire the beauty of this place.
The Chapel only opens on Sunday.

This Catholic Chapel has a very interesting history. You can google about it.
Some called it the Healing Church, some said that the Holy Water has some kind of superpower.

I believe them all.
But most of all, I just love the design, simple yet meaningful.
I make sure I have a glimpse of it every time I travel along Kuching-Sri Aman road.

Pesta Benak 2013

My 1st time witnessing this great natural phenomenon.  Benak means tidal bore in English. A tidal bore is a strong tide that pushes up the river, against the current.

My observation during this Pesta Benak:
  • Crowd is huge
  • Cleanliness are bad
  • Activities are plenty
  • Traffic jam, parking and lodging are the things to consider
  • Waterfront area needs beautification works
Overall I did enjoy the experience.
Macam sakai jak masa nampak benak datang.

Tinggi vs Mandi

Emmett: Mummy, kalau kita mandi, kita akan jadi tinggi kah?
Mummy: Tidak, kalau kita makan dan minum baru kita jadi tinggi.  Kalau kita mandi, kita jadi wangi.
Emmett: Tapi kan... kalau kita minum, kita kencing.  Kalau kita makan, kita berak.
*^%#^*

Few days later..

Emmett: Mummy, bau la tissue ni, nanti saya mandikan nya supaya dia wangi, ok?
*^%#^*

Busy vs Important

"You can be very busy but unimportant, just as you can be important but not busy."

Ooo yeah, just exactly what I have in mind right now.
Happy Friday everyone!

Boy Thai Band

This band played at the recent Asia Music Festival.

They played the modernized Thai Music, a bit Jazzy mixer.

Great, sexy Jazz music.
Take a closer look at the thai xylophone player, he's kinda good-looking right?! Or maybe cute is more like it, familiar face like the Thai or Philipines hero in TV drama (my mum's favourite.. Haha)

The crowd loved them too.

Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri

A room in the Longhouse at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, Miri.

Nice clean room with 4 single beds.

The only drawback it that it's quite far from the hotel lobby, so you have to call for a buggy pick-up every time you want to go out.
